TASTEFUL DESIGN

So what on earth is Tasteful Design?!?

Tasteful | Definition of Tasteful by Merriam-Webster
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tasteful:  having or showing the ability to choose what is good, beautiful, or proper a tasteful color combination. Other Words from tasteful.

So that helps, right?!?  Didn’t think so . . . let’s try again.

If you talk to 10 Architectural Designers, you may get 10 entirely different perspectives on Tasteful Design.  But it becomes a much easier task when the subject matter is flooring.  Why?  When any space is designed, you ideally start your vision with the flooring.  And depending on the usage, residential of commercial, the colors/textures/patterns of various surface types should technically address several issues including:

  • Traffic and soil contribution – Is it manageable? Can soil be contained?
  • Color Selection – “Trendy” or is the color value too light?  Dark?
  • Performance – High traffic?  Rarely walked on?
  • Maintenance – Is the product cleanable?  Best cleaning procedures?
  • Life Cycle Cost – Is Cheaper Better?  Is there a cost to Quality?  NO!  Duh!
  • Logistics – Multi story building, elevators manage pallets but not broadloom
  • Renovation – Probably means night work to minimize employee disruption
  • New Construction – Never a good idea to have flooring installers working with plumbers … electricians … drywallers – always a nighmare!
